Rural Alive and Well Inc (RAW) welcomes commitment to continued funding

This week, RAW is pleased to acknowledge strong support from both major political parties ahead of this weekend’s state election.

Today, Premier Jeremy Rockliff confirmed a commitment from the Liberal Party to fully fund RAW for a further three years beyond the 2026-27 budget, while working towards a longer-term funding arrangement. In a letter to RAW, the Premier stated:

“I am delighted to say that a re-elected Liberal Government will commit to providing certainty for RAW by extending all current agreements for a further three years from 2026-27.”

“The Tasmanian Liberals have consistently recognised the vital role RAW plays in providing mental health services and support to our rural and regional communities.”

Earlier this week, Labor MP Janie Finlay confirmed that:

“A Dean Winter Labor Government will support the transition to a five-year funding agreement for RAW, so that they can deliver continuity of care to Tasmanians and invest in their long-term wellbeing without the threat of cancellation” and "will work with RAW to ensure your ongoing work with the Tasmanian community is secured as part of developing the 2025-26 budget.”

RAW CEO Lee Whiteley welcomed the recognition from both parties and said:

“RAW is delighted with the assurance that we will be able to keep turning up for the incredible people in rural and remote Tasmania. Longer-term funding enables us to deliver consistent and innovative interventions that reduce the stigma around suicide and improve mental wellbeing.”
