Take a Few Minutes for Yourself, It Makes a Difference

Life in rural and regional communities is full of demands. Whether it’s early mornings on the farm, long hours on the road, juggling family commitments or the pressure of trying to keep everything running smoothly, it’s easy to get caught up in the cycle of “go, go, go”. But just like machinery needs refuelling and maintenance, so do we. Taking even a few minutes each day to pause, relax and recharge can make a real difference to your wellbeing.

Most of us think of “self care” as something big, like taking a holiday or setting aside a whole afternoon. But the truth is small steps can have a big impact. A five minute break to step outside, stretch or to simply sit with a cup of tea can lower stress levels, clear your mind and help you to return to the task at hand with more focus and energy.

These moments don’t need to be complicated, it could be as simple as;

✅ Taking a few deep breaths before you start the next job.

✅ Listening to a favourite song or podcast while driving.

✅ Sitting quietly in the ute for a couple of minutes before heading inside at the end of the day.

✅ Going for a short walk to the mailbox and back.

✅ Simply enjoying the view of the land you’re working so hard to care for.

These short breaks are not about doing less, they are about giving yourself the chance to do more, with greater clarity and strength. They remind us that our wellbeing is just as important as the work we do for our families, communities and businesses.

At RAW we know how tough life can be in rural Tasmania and how often people put themselves at the bottom of the priority list. But we want to remind you that looking after your mental health doesn’t need to be complicated. By giving yourself even a few quiet moments each day you’re investing in your own wellbeing.

If you ever feel like the load is getting too heavy, know that you don’t have to carry it on your own. RAW is here to walk alongside you.

Our team is always ready for a chat, to listen without judgement, and to provide support when you need it. You can make a referral for yourself or someone you’re concerned about by calling 1800 RAW TAS (1800 729 827) or request a call-back at ruralaliveandwell.com.au/callbackrequest.

So, start small and challenge yourself to just take a few minutes each day, to breathe, to reflect and to recharge. It might seem small but over time those moments add up to a healthier, stronger you.
